Headteacher's Welcome

Welcome to Westlea Primary and Nursery School

Westlea is a vibrant school, with over 280 children on roll. The school has 12 classes, which includes a Nursery class for children aged 3-4yrs and 2 Unit classes for children with complex needs, including social and communication challenges. In June 2023, OFSTED completed a Section 5 Inspection and the school was judged ‘Good’ in every category.

Westlea is part of the Brunel Academy Trust (Brunel) and is fully aligned to the Brunel vision and ethos, believing there are 'no barriers only potential’. Our children and young people are at the heart of everything we do and in 2022 we were named ’Most Inclusive Primary Provision’ in the NASEN Awards. We strive to ensure that all of the children will be at the heart of every decision we make, so they are happy, safe and confident.

All of the educational opportunities and experiences are relevant to the children’s needs both now and in the future. Children learn through real life situations; therefore it is essential that each teacher plans thought provoking lessons, that include enquiry, questioning and debate. Also, outdoor learning is an integral part of the school curriculum for children of all ages, supported by a commitment to physical education, music and the arts. Ultimately, every pupil should leave Westlea as a resilient young person, with high aspirations and lasting memories that will prepare them for later life.

Our collective ambition is to further promote high standards across all aspects of school, from behaviour management to developing a sense of belonging. We want to continue to foster positive relationships with the parents, the local community, believing that education is a partnership between home and school, where each parent or carer plays an active part in their child’s education.

Please contact the school office if you would like to arrange a visit because you can never replace the first-hand experience of seeing our unique and very inclusive school at work.

I look forward to hearing from you.
